After graduating from the London School of Economics and Political Science, earning a BSc in Economics and Finance, Matthew Turner started his career initially being hired by Citibank as an intern, then as a full employee, rapidly rising from an entry level Stock Analyst to a Senior Stock Analyst within his first 12 months. It was here that he applied his own trading discipline (a combination of superlative macroeconomic knowledge, micro economical comprehension, and raw talent) and saw the application of this way of trading in his clients’ portfolios, raising the bar in his department, and consequently being a major pivot point in his early career. He was then made the youngest Equities Analyst to ever be on the Corporate Trading desk, after outgrowing the Retail Department, which saw him being transferred to Citibank Dublin, where the Corporate Division had a larger presence, and he quickly advanced to become a Senior Stock Analyst for Corporate clients. He then relocated to the USA to be closer to the pulse of the markets he was trading in, taking a position as a Private Equity Analyst at PFS Investments Inc. in Duluth, Georgia, where he worked for three years, achieving several promotions and gaining valuable experience in sector and company evaluations. In 2006 he moved to U.S. Bancorp Investments Inc. in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was offered the role of Senior Private Equity Analyst, before, a year later, relocating to North Carolina and starting work at E*TRADE Securities LLC with the Corporate Trading Division as a Senior Private Equity Analyst. A year later, he was headhunted by Wells Fargo Securities LLC to manage the company’s Corporate Trading Division, working alongside the Client Relations Division. He soon developed a strong reputation and established firm relationships with some of the world’s most prominent Tier 1 Underwriters, giving him invaluable knowledge and direct access to the global IPO market, and subsequently the most promising IPOs. He was given sole responsibility for identifying and establishing target niche client segments, and managing a new client development unit for his team. He then transferred to the institutional arm of the company in 2012, providing financial solutions to the company’s institutional clients, where he proceeded to build up a roster of institutional entities, helping the company to bring in new clients and over $400 million worth of assets. In 2017, he moved over to the company’s Private Equity Division and managed the company’s high net worth independent investors, gaining a reputation for identifying niche client segments within the Private Equity and Mergers & Acquisitions sector, as well as finding the most exciting IPO opportunities. He was eventually headhunted by Hallbar Group Capital and moved to Australia in 2023 in order to take up the role of Head of Corporate for one of the industry leaders in the Sydney region. He is now responsible for managing his own team within the company framework, as well as developing the Hallbar Group Capital Company Investment Mandate, which is then used as a blueprint and adjusted to become tailor-made for each specific client, based on the risk tolerance of each client. He contributes to various financial websites with stock tips, market analysis, and company evaluations, he lectures in various universities in the Asia-Pacific region, and he has featured as keynote speaker in several financial conferences in the region.
